UNSPOKEN TRUTH : PART 1: What does POC/ BAME mean to you?
The current xenophobia and racism directed to Asians in the West and the constant mistreatment and racism of Africans in the East can not be ignored.
I asked a group of people from the African and Asian Diasporas, how COVID-19 has affected their communities. There are three parts to this documentary. :
The original conversation lasted for two hours.

I watched it. You could certainly expand on this topic, for sure. That is a great point about gatherings. Well done.
@Anniwaa This really touched on the pain felt internally by individuals who experience “racism”. However I don’t feel racism is limited to ethnic minorities, I have experienced racism, to include whilst being in Spain where I was called capitalist scum. (Purely because I’m English and was staying in a nice hotel). Racism is a scourge with no boundary or intellect and based on bullies who are big fish in small pond. Human beings are the problem, Covid is just a bug that kills anything in it’s way.
Debbie Croysdale what you experienced is nationalism. You were discriminated against based on your nationality...and not by your race. You had spoken in order for someone to see that you were English. I don't have that privilege, neither does anyone who is non-white. We are seen as other due to the colonial residue, which white people benefit from.
Debbie Croysdale there is a reason why there are terms such as Person of Colour/ Black Asian Minority And Minority Ethnic.
@Anniwaa Hi I had not finished writing in this thread last night but my battery went dead and cos was middle of the night I fell asleep instead of continuing. Thanks for your input which I just seen now. I did not realize what I experienced was Nationalism, all I knew is it hurt and I thought they were getting at me, for just being me. There are laws in place against these hate crimes yet the bigotry never seems to be blown out of the water. People every day are experiencing Nationalism, Racism, Ageism and the sad thing is, it seems to be growing. I have been speaking in general above and not yet touched on the topic of BAME and Covid 19. This situation is an epoch disaster and much research is now taking place, as to why the double figures in deaths. Without doubt some ethnic minorities (not my word but word used in thread) are living in poverty and these issues should be addressed by local government. Everyone is still learning about this dangerous virus and even the experts will not know for some considerable time, exactly how it operates. Stay safe!
@Anniwaa Hi last 100 days did not have access to my photos, so just to expand issue of thread. As you already know, transmedia is a great way to get a message out. Just wanted to add that I travel to many cutting edge theatres and stumbled across this new trend of bonding meetings after show. Eg Characters mix with audience on a personal level and issues brought up during their performance are felt on a visceral level. This seems to be happening in Indie but not so much main stream. Some countries ban or edit reported press but person to person contact in these art programmes cuts across barriers. This one a re enactment of schools taken over in Brazil 2015/16 with the actual pupils who were police raided. (Transform Festival) Though not about Covid issue per sae, it sits under the same umbrella as all racism and prejudice and these actors would not be silenced. I support art where victims involved are able to reach out in an organic way, much deeper than a bird eye view as spectator of something that is happening to someone else. It speaks volumes because all of us were absolutely stunned by their first hand stories. I hope the trend grows. @All stay safe!
