Showreel Soundtrack Feedback Needed

I have just finished a score for a very talented VFX artist Piero Foretti's showreel - see the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8D2e7nIvbM - please share your feedback and advice. Thanks.

Allen Lynch

Hello Levente. I thought your unique sound design really enhanced the visuals, especially the first seventy seconds. Kudos! I'd categorize this piece as more of a collection of very cool individual cues.

Joel Irwin

Well it definitely fits the project and does a great job highlighting the action. Now my personal style is quite different from yours (I use very little in synth sounds/samples/instruments). However, I do love to listen to 'new age' music which is heavily synth based - especially the material that came out in the 80s and 90s.

But here is something you should definitely want to watch/listen to as it was in my opinion one of the early groundbreaking synthesized soundtracks to accompany an dialog-less animation, "The Minds Eye (1990)"

Martial Petit

Sophisticated, the image is really enhanced by your music and choice of sounds. I would have liked a softer transition between sequences. Bravo.

Many thanks for your feedback. I certainly need more projects of this kind so I could improve my scoring/composing for motion picture skills.

Joel Irwin Thanks for the movie, haven't seen it yet - tonight!

Allen Lynch I have definitely used to many samples (half of the soundscapes) and only created from scratch myself.

Martial Petit Yes, transitions and perhaps timing is yet to be polished...

Hey, Levente Dudas! I'm giving feedback on Fridays as part of a #FilmmakerFriday thing I'm trying! If you'd like to participate, scroll through Your Stage (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/promotion) and give feedback to at least three other videos that have posted! Then, copy and paste this info for them to join.

I like how the sounds come together musically and rhythmically for the images that seem not-quite-finished, and then there is "music" for movement - like the drums for the dancing. The only part that doesn't fit for me is the hammer smashing the glass - I like the glass as a sound effect for the actual impact, but before that, it's jarring to hear it before we see it. But also I happen to know that hammer, and so kinda expect something more "Viking" musically than tech-glitchy. Otherwise, great job!

Thanks for sharing! I hope the feedback is helpful, and I look forward to seeing your notes on others' posts, too!

Karen "Kay" Ross Many thanks for your feedback...Yes, indeed, there are few "flaws" within the score...The video was made by the artist himself, so I could not influence the way it was assembled and I just produced what first came to my mind...I followed the action with sounds, more less I was the "foley" artist...It is kinda first take...I will certainly check out the #FilmmakerFriday!

Karen "Kay" Ross

I'm not even sure I would call them "flaws" so much as creative choices ;-) You've done great work, Levente Dudas! Can't wait to see the next round!
