Hello everyone. Just trying to put a feeler out to see what cinematographers are in my area, and to find out from cinematographers what you all need from a filmmaker/producer to ensure a successful project.
I’m in the DMV area and looking to shoot a short film with a small, skeleton crew. It is a paid but there is no budget as of yet as we are still in the early stages of production and yet to move into fundraising. Project is an urban, drama (for lack of a better word), 2ish locations.
I’ve done only no/micro budget films so far so any insight (e.g., people’s rates, should I go for a cinematographer who is a “one-man band”?) will be more than welcomed. You can see my profile as well for a link to some of my projects/productions I’ve done so far.

Damian Lloyd Lol, no I'm sorry. It's what the call the metropolitan D.C., Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area. I should have been more general.

I can DM you with individuals I would recommend as well, but my recommendation would be to start big, take a free consultation with bigger companies, because you will learn a ton from the meetings, and then you can always scale down to "make it work with what you've got". And there are PLENTY of one-man-bands in the DMV.

Karen "Kay" Ross Thank you for the info. Always fun in the DMV, then winter comes and everyone wishes they were in a place more like where you're at. I've done my own smaller projects but understanding what to expect when hiring a professional cinematographer is new to me. But I'm glad there are a lot of one man bands out there.
