Storyboarding for Directing

I was wondering that ALL directors use storyboards when it comes to planning/blocking your shot or do they just TRUST THEIR GUTS and plan it on-spot?

Robert Russo

It depends on the director but I believe most do scout locations and plan shots ahead of time.

Alright. Thank you so much :)

I typically scout the location, capture ideas for setups using an app like Artemis it Cadrage, then use those images to reference in a down and dirty storyboard which I usually intend to break once we are on set and the scene is alive. Really just great for the pre pro conversations and getting the team in sync. Good luck!
