Hello, all. My apologies, I don't do much posting. Paradoxically, I also don't put much effort into socializing for the sake of being social, even though I love to meet new people and share ideas and conversation. Go figure!
I very recently completed the third part of a fantasy trilogy I've been writing for a while and have yet to finalize for release. The trilogy is called 'To Marry An Elf', and I am currently working on formatting the story for ebook publication and developing character images and cover art... while editing a reference book on marine science.
Perhaps someone could answer a question I have? I've written a script that I would like to submit in competition. Unfortunately, I think it runs afoul of one of the submission restrictions in that it is a sequel to the existing, and very well known, feature film "The Princess Bride", and uses some of the same characters and locations. Could it be submitted, and if not how should I go about getting it into the hands of potentially interested producers? Is this the point where I absolutely need an agent?
Hope to see some replies to this. Thanks in advance.
Hey, Richard M. Renneboog! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage32. Nice to meet you! I feel ya - I'm a highly social person, but sometimes it's difficult to motivate myself to get out of my shell. Ooo, neat! I also have trained in Aikido! I'm sorely out of practice though.
Congrats on completing the trilogy! You could post your writing question in the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but also reach out to Jason Mirch, our Director of Script Services, to get his advice: J.Mirch@stage32.com For my two cents, if you don't have the rights to the original IP (including characters), then there's nothing you can do until you do. Unless, of course, you can sell your script to the original owners of the IP, but they have no reason to buy it because they can re-write it themselves.
