Hiring "American" Actors

Just saw this recap of one of the San Diego Comic Con's panels with Robert Rodriguez. Casting is definitely a big part of the responsibility of a director. I love how he stood up to the studio to remind them that Mexican-American is still American.

How have you had to push back about casting choices? Has someone pushed back against you and made you open up to other possibilities of what "American" means?

I also saw this panel and really enjoyed his take on the conversation. It’s great that he stood his ground and it paid off!

Christopher Ryan Laughter Right?! Love hearing him own what he contributes to the process - he didn't make his own film to roll over and sell out. He made it to make an impact, so kudos that he would continue to do so.

Ooo, I see you're from Houston! I have lots of family there as well! I was born in Austin, but raised in DC, so while I still consider myself an East Coaster, once you're "from" Texas, they never really let you forget it LOL!
