J.J. Watts - Cartoonist

Hi, I'm new to Stage32. Here trying to network and get my stuff out there. Based in London, UK. My background is in screenwriting and animation, specifically writing for animation, but I've also dabbled in live-action TV, graphic novels and film. My main genres are comedy, sci-fi and fantasy. I, with help from my friends, have been developing an adult animated series for the past few years.

It's called "Stepaside", and it focuses on a well-to-do middle-class family who are forced to leave their quaint suburban life in Highgate, London behind and relocate to a rough, working-class town in the north of England. The series blends the caustic, contemporary social commentary of ‘South Park’ with the British self-deprecation of ‘Black Books’ and ‘Little Britain’.

The show is a satirical skewer of modern British life. I have several scripts in the late stages of development, a planned and fleshed out cast, setting and story plan, a devoted team, and a completed 30 minute pilot episode which I animated over a period of nine months. Few have seen it thus far, as it's only recently been finished and is not yet publicly available, but feedback so far has been positive.

I made a short before the full episode which publically available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYU52yNyuXE&ab

Anyone interesting in learning more feel free to reach out. I plan to post about this in the animation lounge too. We've been pitching it like mad for the last month, to agencies all over London. I truly feel it has potential, and we've already got a finished pilot. Adult animation is booming at the moment (Rick & Morty, Bojack Horsman, ect.) with around 10 new adult animated shows debuting in the past year, and I made my whole first episode on a near-zero budget. Adult animation is also an area Britain has never made significant headway in, unlike America. It's an untapped genre, and I believe "Stepaside" could be the British alternative to 'South Park' or 'Family Guy'.
