I'm a staff-level TV writer currently on an ABC show. My writing partner and I are comedy writers with a passion for watching hour-long procedural dramas. Nice to meet everyone!
I just heard a comedy writer on a podcast say there is no "best methodology" for writing comedy. He writes what he finds funny himself, and that's his main guide. I'm paraphrasing, as I cannot find that podcast! But...would you say the same?
Hi Nancy,

Absolutely! We also try to make sure characters exit or end a scene either better or worse than they were at the top, and whichever it is, it's funny.

Ahhhh...that's a great tip! Thanks. Now that I think about it, all the best comedy is obviously written by writers who follow that principle.
