Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter, Associate Producer by Julie Manriquez

Julie Manriquez

Screenwriter, Associate Producer

Hey Stage32-ers!

I haven't posted in awhile. I've been working as writer/associate producer on a 30-minute documentary for the past 4 months as these unprecedented times opened unexpected doors.

Our documentary team, led by a local investor/EP (in San Diego), will be releasing our film — "Spark: A Systemic Racism Story" — this week! Look out for links on social media and at our website, which goes live on November 1st (www.spark-doc.com).

With this project just wrapped, I am returning my focus to landing a manager to shop my feature dramedy script ("March"). My co-writer daughter (a recent graduate from Syracuse University's BFA Acting program) and I have been recognized as semifinalists in several contests and we have recently refined our screenplay to reach 'final final' (yeah right!) status. Very grateful to Stage 32 Script Services and The Writers Room for your expertise and support. And to everyone at Stage 32, thank you for this forum to collaborate and exchange ideas in a supportive community of creatives.

Hey, Julie Manriquez! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. Nice to meet you! Congrats on your doc, and your feature! Definitely reach out to our Director of Script Services, Jason Mirch, who is excellent at matching projects with potential executives (or managers, in your case): J.Mirch@stage32.com

Man, I'd love for you to post in the Producing Lounge: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/producing Maybe you could talk about your duties as an Associate Producer? They can change depending on the aspect of the industry.

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my intro blog post on how to engage with the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect! And, of course, feel free to reach out at any time.

Hi Kay! Thank you for your response. I would love to get more involved at Stage32 in the Lounges. I will add a post to the Producing Lounge this week. I'm slammed with the launch of the doc tomorrow. And, I'm in touch with Jason. Hoping to hear back from him regarding a few managers that he recommended for me to pick to. I'll get on that tomorrow and get on their rosters.

I'd like to reconnect on Stage 32 in the coming month with all the services as I am able to commit more time to my feature!!

Happy Sunday,

julie
