Introduce Yourself : Hello. Newbie. by Phil Mccormack

Phil Mccormack

Hello. Newbie.

I've just joined, so wanted to pen a little about myself.

I'm currently working at NHS Digital in the UK, providing C19 datasets to the research establishments (Universities) and Public Health England.  High pressure environment, therefore, writing is infrequent at the moment.

I'm currently working on one of many true stories in my life, writing it as a screenplay. I've never done creative writing before.  My first job was a Technical Author, writing electronics maintenance manuals back in the 1980s.

I got a new job, which flew me all over the world as a software consultant.  I visited many places, had some close calls with dodgy characters and developed many ideas for fiction.

An idea I'm currently developing, is screen writing a true story to do with my Father.  He was the sole survivor of a WW2 plane crash, his first flight.  Turns out there was a design flaw with the aircraft, a cover up in those days for obvious reasons.  In later years, my dad took on the task of gaining more information about the accident.  WIP

I'm just loving screenwriting, as I find it most rewarding, trying to visualise what's on the screen at a point in time.  I don't have the language skills to become a good author (fact), you can't be great at everything right ?  I've tried.  I'm excellent with computer data though, so a consolation there.

Have a great day all and stay safe.

Phil

Welcome, Phil.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Hey, Phil Mccormack! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. Nice to meet you! and welcome! Wow, what a fascinating background you have! Dude - don't worry about the talent. Good scripts aren't written, they are REwritten. Also, it's easy to think of writing as a solo act, but it's not true. Here - check out our November Write Club: https://www.stage32.com/blog/The-Stage-32-November-Write-Club-is-Back-Wh... It's a great example of how with a cohort or a community, your writing can improve!

I’m sure you’ve already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely reach out on the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read!

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my intro blog post on how to engage with the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect! And, of course, feel free to reach out at any time.
