Screenwriting : Entertainment Lawyer by Aaron Easterbrooks

Entertainment Lawyer

I'm a screenwriter. Does anyone have a referral for an honest and not overly expensive attorney? Would like to have an attorney ready to review potential contracts prior to pitching. Thank you.

Hi Barry. Pleasure to meet :) Yes, an agent is definitely an option. I'm game planning a bit... would like to see what hourly rates for an attorney would be. Thank you for the suggestion :)

John Ellis

Attorneys generally take a flat fee for reviewing contracts. Unless you can afford to put them on retainer. For that, the quotes I've gotten were $450 and hour low-end.

Michelle N Barnes

I know a great affordable one as well.

Hi John and Michelle. Pleasure to meet. Useful info regarding flat fees, thanks John. Michelle, yes... would be interested in your referral if that's OK. Thank you to both of you. Have a good day.

I agree with Dan G - you're putting the cart before the horse.

Hi Dan and Doug. Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated. Contracts aren't my area of knowledge and I don't have an agent, so I thought an attorney in the wings might be useful. Actually a sigh of relief knowing non-studio contracts aren't so complicated (as you mentioned Dan). I sincerely appreciate your advice.
