Screenplay festival award winner - now what?

Hi all,

I have an inquiry that I'd love some help with. I've been successful in the screenplay festival circuit in the few years that I have been entering them. Below I will display my recent wins to illustrate this point and to brag a little.

Winner: 2020 Lost Angeles Movie Film Awards (best comedy)

Winner: 2020 Los Angeles Independent Film Awards (best script)

Winner: 2020 Los Angeles Film and Script Competition (Best comedy)

Winner: 2020 Los Angeles Movie Awards (Best Script)

Winner: 2019 Portland Comedy Film Festival (Best International Screenplay)

Winner: 2019 Horror13 Film Festival (Best Screenplay)

Winner: 2019 Austin Comedy Short Film Festival (Best Screenplay)

Winner: 2017 Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood (Best Screenplay)

Winner: 2017 New York Film Awards (Best Script)

As a result, my confidence as a writer is solid but my ability in selling myself is nearly zero. In other words, I have no idea how to capitalize on the above accolades. Are there any blog posts, articles, interviews, or personal anecdotes you could offer that could help a new writer learn how to get himself and his work out there? I know there is no great answer to the mystery; I seek a starting point, an introduction, a guide of some sort.

Thanks!

Edward

Hi Edward, did you send out query letters mentioning your awards? I know that usually helps. Also, I heard that when you make it this far then you have a better chance of agencies contacting you. Has that happened at all? Also, your script might be good but is it marketable?

Perhaps use IMBD Pro to target your query letters (per Christine's suggestion above) to the best people. Stick to one script and its accolades and why you are contacting THAT person specifically (ie because they produced something similar, etc). make sure you include a great logline and things could get rolling for you. I'm surprised none of the awards came with meetings or the like?? Good luck!
