Screenwriting : Life on the short list. by Bill Albert

Life on the short list.

During a consultation with a Development Director for a streaming service I was told I'm on a short list of people he'd like to work with. Off hand it sounds really good but I'll admit I may have a romanticized vision of what it means. Anybody have any real life experiences to share.

Rory Atkinson

Hello Bill it sounds very similar to a Hollywood carrot,Do you know what that is?

Ewan Dunbar

Hi again Bill. It could mean that they like your writing style and would like to consider having you on board as a writer on another project that comes their way in the future. Or that they like your particular writing skill set and think it could compliment someone else's on a future project to co-write.

Its a nice compliment so well done! Unless it is/or develops into something exclusive, keep writing and pitching your work to them and others and check-in every now and then to see if they have something suitable for you to work on.

CJ Walley

I'd take it as a win, Bill. Generally speaking, if someone didn't ever want to work with you, they'd come up with a far more conclusive excuse. Saying you're on their shortlist isn't committing to anything but it is keeping the door open.

Dan MaxXx

work = payment. Signed contracts, options, money in your pocket mean folks are serious

Bill Albert

He did specifically say they were looking at starting new projects and expanding current projects in the next two months. Will ride it out, keep writing and pitching, and hope for the nest.

Doug Nelson

Don't bet the farm on it; just go with the flow and enjoy the ride.
