If anyone has tips for a first time director, I'd love to hear them. I plan to direct my first short this year. Thanks in advance.

Read "I'll Be in My Trailer: The Creative Wars Between Directors and Actors". It is priceless.
Plan your shoot. Shoot your plan. Medium shots are your friend.
Know your shot list until you can lose it and don't need it anymore. Then don't be afraid to experiment and try things. You only have one shot on each day so make it count.
Best film school you'll ever get is listening to the commentary tracks in David Fincher's films.
Make sure you have a skilled script supervisor - she or he will save your tushie several times on set and every scene in post.
Loving the tips and so very much appreciate them. I’ll keep you each posted
