Introduce Yourself : Creative Comedy Southern Screenwriter by Chase M Bates

Chase M Bates

Creative Comedy Southern Screenwriter

Been a Screenwriter for 6 years, a graduate for 4, and I have yet to come close to landing a production gig. When I moved to GA from Louisiana, I started working for this production company that ended up being bogus. Since then, I haven't even heard from anyone in the industry of all the contacts I have reached out to. I'm sure we all know this feeling, and I'm hoping this will make connecting with the industry easier.

Been writing comedies, which kinda blend into other genres a bit but not too much for it to be confusing or misleading. 3 pilots. 2 specs. 1 feature. And a handfull of sketches.

Hope everyone is having as much luck as I wish to have!

Never give up, Chase! Stage 32 is a great place to meet the right people. I worked with a producer years ago who was interested in one of my scripts and while his notes on my story were helpful, he was also full of it and never actually got the funding he said he had. Didn't stop me. Whenever someone says, "No", I say, "Okay, who's next." Now I'm taking the reigns and moving to produce. I'll find the right people at the right time!!!

Thank you both! Am looking forward to growing through this community and hopefully more. Just contacted him, thanks :)

Hi @Chase have you thought of online pitching your comedies at screenwriting festivals yet? They usually have both free and paid pitches, (pre covid more exec/producer pitches were free cos you just used to join a live non social distance queue.) Also get your music samples out there on sound cloud or u tube etc. Is your music mainly for comedy backing or have you got any eerie horror music, I'm always on lookout for original tracks. Hope you enjoy it here!

Hi, Chase and welcome aboard! You've come to the right place. Stage 32 is a great place to meet like-minded creatives. I would definitely poke around the lounges and check out the script services tab (for development and script services from executives with Universal, MGM, Mandalay Pictures, HBOMax and many others!) Also, may I suggest posting your loglines on your profile? It's a great way for people (including exec's) to easily find, rate and review it. Also, if you're interested in joining the Writers' Room for a free month, please email Jason Mirch (j.mirch@stage32.com), the Director of Script Services. It's a great way to meet others, learn about the craft and business, pitch to working executives, give and receive script coverage and so much more! Jason is also super helpful in guiding you in your career and can also help you if you're wondering to which executive you should pitch your script. Happy writing!
