Introduce Yourself : Greetings from Joshua Tree by Steve "Shanghai" Brown

Steve "Shanghai" Brown

Greetings from Joshua Tree

I'm slowly emerging back into the world after our crew has gotten fully vaccinated. We're resuming production this fall on Season 3 of Southwest Stories, with this season produced for national PBS distribution, Roku, etc. This summer, our crew will be out shooting historical trail videos in partnership with the Oregon-California Trails Association, the largest historical trails organization in the country.

I'm also working on a range of historically-grounded travel series projects. I've been told by a Discovery producer that a project I ran by them was "too high-brow." But that's simply not true. There are great stories out there to be found in history, and historical storytelling can be extremely fun and accessible. When you incorporate contemporary travel into the narrative, you have the opportunity to draw from both the past and present, keeping the story fresh and moving. No sepia-toned somber historical documentaries with tons of talking heads!

I fell into television work after working in every other medium as a journalist - I've worked in print, digital, radio, podcast, video, TV, live events, tour guide, speaker, and on stage as a performer. I hope to meet and perhaps collaborate at some point with some of you. There's a ton o' talent on this platform.

Cheers,

Good luck, Steve :)! I love period films and series :). It's important to tell the stories from our past.
