Crowd funding for my for my story

I looked into crowdfunding and was looking at various companies that do crowdfunding PR and Social Media for film, but I am finding it hard to find any willing to work with them on a percentage basis, and had I had the money to pay them upfront they are all booked up.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Why would any site do anything else BUT a percentage? Seed & Spark, Kickstarter, GoFundMe - they all seem to have percentages. Where are you going with an upfront fee?

Scott Adlai Stevenson

Although crowdfunding is free to put up your project, then you have to promote it to the world unless of course, you can get a big name star or director on board, Furthermore, I really looking into it, but when started really checking into crowdfunding there are many

crowdfunding experts, but they all want big money upfront or go out and learn the tricks of the trade and do it yourself......

Karen "Kay" Ross, he's talking about companies that do the marketing of a campaign, not the sites themselves.

Scott Adlai Stevenson I found the same thing myself - the marketing companies all want fees, rather than a % of the amount raised. Further, if you don't already have a large, active SM base, even with a good firm doing the promo, the chances of raising the money are slim to none.

Better to just raise the money yourself. In the past, I've raised 20K from friends and family (and 30K from my own pockets), based on their belief in me and my dreams. I was also VERY honest with them about my plans for these projects and their minimal chances for any ROI. And I didn't pay an outside company a dime.

This was over a 7 year period on 3 different projects. Did any of those projects actually make money? No. They did lead to several quality connections - and those relationships are bringing me close to fruition on a couple of big projects. Are the F&F happy they gave me money? All but one - Yes. They've seen my growth as a writer and the opportunities that are on the horizon.

Because, in the end, life (and the biz) is about the relationships we have.

Wow, didn't mean to get all zen, but there it is!

The bottom line is, It's all about the money!
