Acting Tips #1

What makes YOUR acting stand out from the crowd and what others can learn from it?

Karen "Kay" Ross

Hey, Shekhar Kumar! Ooo, good question! Or at least - it forces the insecurities we have as performers to be pushed aside and just OWN what we do best. LET'S DO THIS!

It may seem simple, but I'm really good at listening and responding. This has worked really well in dramatic scenes where certain things like timing can't be dictated. Interestingly enough, I was told by a long-time working actress earlier today that she can totally see me as a cop or FBI agent (or another authority figure) and loved my voice, but my work has shown me to be a very compelling leading lady or love interest.

Now, why is it that I feel compelled to temper that statement with all the things I still have to work on? LOL

Somit Gope

We all are actor in this world but we when we act in front of the camera we become nervous and conscious . When we are normal in front of the camera then we will be able to give best performance.

Joe Altieri

Ground it. That’s where I start. How real am I? My normal energy is pretty high, fairly intense. So often if I’m not careful, I’m too big from the start. So I try to make sure I’m always grounded and as authentically real as I can be. I remember being on a set where the Director kept saying to the actors, “you’re acting! Stop acting!”

Sherrie Foster

I like to.really focus on ‘the moment before and pretend l am talking to a friend, enemy or family member so I try NOT to Act. As much as possible. I definitely learn to lines then experiment with different emotions. Until I become the character..

Matthew Cornwell

Ironically, you stand out by being yourself. None of us were made the same, so if we allow our true, authentic selves to shine through, then that makes a signature performance. That, and YEARS of training, of course ;)
