Screenwriting : Disney Pitch? by Chris Chapman

Disney Pitch?

I have turned one of the scripts I have been working on into a Disney+ series as Disney owns the long dormant franchise. Anyone know of a Disney or Disney adjacent individual to pitch to?

Hey, Chris Chapman! Thanks for reaching out, but you may want to pump the breaks on pitching an idea to the owner of the IP. If you don't own the original Intellectual Property (characters, storylines, world details, etc.), then they have no legal need to buy anything from you. They can and will take your script because you have no rights to the content.

HOWEVER, don't dispair - you could use it as a calling card, writing sample, spec script to help get you other writing work.

Thank You for the advice. I know the franchise has had some stalled movement in recent years. It is the most out-of-character of franchises for the House Of Mouse. As much as I would love to see this franchise have a shot at breathing new life, I would utilize your advice and just give them the idea as a calling card.

If you can change the details that are not yours - character names and such - then you could still make it into an original film ;-) No matter what, keep it on the shelf and keep writing that next one!

Unfortunately it was written solely based in that franchise. Changes would make it look like a blatant rip-off. I have seen others attempt it with this franchise and the end product has just been horrible. I have other original scripts in the works and this one was more of a fun exercise that turned into something worthy of the franchise. It's a shame because with the way IP holders are looking for new ways to stretch those franchises for everything they can offer, this one has endless possibilities, tie-ins, cross-overs and merchandising.
