Introduce Yourself : Composer, Screenwriter, and Director by Milo E. Zimmerman-Bence

Milo E. Zimmerman-Bence

Composer, Screenwriter, and Director

Hi everyone! My name is Milo, and I'm an undergraduate freelance media composer, screenwriter, and director current studying at Bard College in NY. Although I do a lot of writing, at the moment my focus is largely on music. I've been doing stuff in both fields since I started taking piano lessons at age six, and almost immediately started writing my own music to score the hypothetical movies I was coming up with, although I like to think I've improved quite a bit since then. My musical inspirations, aside from the obvious few (John Williams, Koji Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, etc.) include Austin Wintory, Alex Abraham, Nainita Desai, Ludwig Goransson, Rachel Portman, Howard Shore, and Manaka Kataoka. Although I specialize in orchestral work, I do often dabble in more electronic and rock-focused stuff as well. At the moment, I am highly fascinated by unconventional arrangements, and seeing how using an instrument that one wouldn't normally expect can add to the effect of a piece of music.

Attached is a WIP my current main project; an original piece of music composed for an indie developer's game pitch trailer.

Hey, Milo E. Zimmerman-Bence! Welcome to the community! Okay - can we take a moment to appreciate that you are a composer attending BARD College?! LOL - That is so fantastically on the nose. Also, congrats on diving into the world of composing! Even if you decide to do more writing/directing, having a skill that provides perspective like cinematography, composing, or editing really elevates your work.
