Chris Vielbaum - Writer/Director

Hello film world,

My name is Chris Vielbaum. I am a recent graduate of Full Sail University's online Digital Cinematography program residing in Wisconsin looking to make a feature film directorial debut.

I have a few feature film projects in writing stage, one almost done with the first draft and another just beginning.

I am also looking into starting up a fully functional crowd-funded film production company.

I am eager to get my foot in the door any way I can and am hopeful to get a paid directing gig soon.

Reach out to me!

I advise you to start making shorts and submitting them to film festivals. That experience will prepare you to make a trailer of your feature. I admire your enthusiasm and ambition. Remember: "Experientia Docet."

If you need money right away, one tip I have heard is to film a "Town Reel" of local business exteriors, then offer rights to local businesses to use it in their promotion. M.O.S. is your friend.

Nice to meet you, Chris Vielbaum. What genres do you like the most?

Chris Vielbaum

I tend to write dramas and action thrillers, but I'll direct anything but comedy and horror.

Hannah Miyamoto

Chris, you may have a limited understanding of what comedy is. "Dr. Strangelove" is a comedy. "Dinner at Eight" and "Bringing Up Baby" are comedies. Chaplin wrote melodramas with comic scenes. Even Hamlet has comedy.

I think Garrison Keillor said it best when he said that God creates a lot of comedy, but he's stuck with bad actors that can't play funny.

"I think the auto-destruct mechanism got hit and blew itself up."

Personally, I would be willing to direct a web commercial for the experience.

Chris Vielbaum, we work in the same genres. I feel Action and Thriller are easy to write.

Hey, Chris Vielbaum! Good to meet you, and welcome to the community! Just to cut to the chase - what directing-adjacent skills do you lean on? Writer/director is one but most of them aren't paid to direct, they find funding for their projects. Cinematographer/director is another, actor/director works too, and then the less common ones are editor/director and producer/director. I only ask because most "working directors" don't just direct. A friend of mine invested in cryptocurrency early which allowed him to buy a camera kit so he could direct his own stuff until he was hired by a production company to help direct/produce their clients' videos.

If you're trying to secure funding for your projects, though, definitely start by listing your loglines on your profile: https://www.stage32.com/loglines
