Screenwriting : Screenplay to Novel by Steven Hopstaken

Screenplay to Novel

I have been trying to sell film rights for my novels, but I've just done the reverse. I took one of my screenplays that has been sitting on the shelf for years and sold it as a novel. Not a bad idea for other screenwriters to take a look at their scripts and think about getting into novel writing. You can always still sell the screenplay later on. I found the screenplay is making an excellent outline for the novel and the writing is going pretty well. Of course, the 100-page screenplay has to be expanded to get to a 300-page book, so new characters and side plots have to be added.

That's so interesting! What was your process in finding a "buyer / novelist"?

Rock on! I shared a similar experience and concur for creative as well as marketing and IP rationale, good for you, I know it takes a major leap of faith and a lot of long days, it's a process that once completed (and I've only done it once, now working on novel number two) yields immense rewards in improving one's writing and especially editorial skills !!
