Logline help

Revenge of the Cats

A man moves to an apartment only to find out talking cats are taking up his space.

Jess Waters

The logline needs stakes, why does it matter that the cats are taking up his space or that they're talking? What does he have to gain or lose in relation to the cats?

Daniel Stuelpnagel

Yayyy, this is real life! Love it. I was thinking of a piece where golden retriever puppies go out in space to the cat space station that they use to control the internet, and it's shaped like one of those round "kitty-condos" with carpet on it. "Super Cuteness Overload" or some shit like that.

Is the man lonely or gregarious? What do the cats talk about? How big is the apartment? Where do they keep the litter boxes? What town? What color cats, what do they look like? How many? And what's he gonna do about it? Dry food or wet food?

Give us details and everyone who loves cats will love this story.

Tony Byrd

The man is lonely. They talk about society itself. The apartment is much big. They keep the litter boxes in his living room. All colors of cats. They're 13 cats. He must get rid of them. Both dry and wet food.

Debbie Croysdale

A misanthropist moves into an apartment and resents it’s inhabited by speaking cats but if they can’t persuade him to join society he will clean up and serve them the rest of his life.

Debbie Croysdale

@Tony I love cats and see many stories around your concept but as comment above states there needs be goal/ stakes.

This sounds like the plot of 1996's Joe's Apartment - but with Cats.

Craig D Griffiths

A good cute comedy. For these concept stories it is more than enough to have a setup.

Rutger Oosterhoff

I like Debbie her version. But with 7 dwarfs... ehh cats. She got her keys to her new apartment, but just before she enters it got squatted by the'former streetgang cats who want a better life. Sounds like a comedy series to me. "Friends" meets "Garfield" meets "Analize This" in a somewhat modern fairytale form. Probably in season 2 they build and run shelter for steetcats accros the street, run by her and the seven lead cats. One of the cats will in the first two episodes of season 1 become the Godfather of them all. Oh yes, the cats are not from the same treetcat gang; all left a different gang - tyred of gang life - wanting to build a new life.. The woman is called "Furr", because her parents loved cats. She hates cats and logically her own name.

A MODERN FURRYTALE

Jon Raven

To me my interest would depend on what the cats had to say... is it "Son Of Sam" with cats instead of a dog... is it Dr Doolittle meets friends.... I'm curious?

Jack Vandagriff

Why not add to the end of your logline "... and they are pissed."?

Debbie Elicksen

So real life, then. Ha ha. You got all of our attention. :)

Dinda Unaroma

I once read through a play (can't remember what it was called now; sorry! My ex knows. He brought it to my attention. I'll get back to you), about a cat. In fact, the cat is the narrator!. She (the cat) is the owner of a neurotic man, whose girlfriend is a cat psychologist, and the humans get into some interesting conversations (as maybe you can imagine) about how his behavior influences his cat. (Think Disney+, the new Turner and Hooch). Meanwhile, the cat is telling her story of the Tom (cat) who she fell in lust with; their adventures milling about the town at night, and the eventual birth of her kitten (who "plops" out from between her legs on the stage). Of course, the Tom leaves her after this--a "love 'em and leave 'em" type of story, which she is telling her kitten about. (Think Cats: "Memories.") Maybe that is some food for thought?
