Introduction to the STAGE 32 community

Hi STAGE 32 community,

Just a quick intro about myself.

Australian (Aussie) born living in Hong Kong (Honkers going Bonkers).

I spent most of my career in the airline industry, during this time I invented a sports product (Multi-function, Multi-Purpose Sport Glove) that turned into a sports brand. " Eliminator"

I was looking for funding on my Patents and Trademarks and thought I have an idea for a script,

"How about I write the script sell it to help fund my sports brand?"

MAN, was I over my head and when I did reach out for someone to help it was costing me $250 an hour and I was buying the coffee.

Fast forward moved to Honkers looking for manufacturing of the product and finished the script

" Big Expectations" a sports type script.

I put my product in the script for brand placement.

I am not sure whether I should've done this?

It is my first script and thought, why not.

Open to any thoughts on this matter.

Please feel free to collaborate.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Great to meet you, Martin McDonald, and welcome to the community! Eh... sorry to say, but I think you got that backward. You may have to use the profits from your contraption to fund your film. I was just listening to a Q&A with Sean Penn about his latest film and he turned down the script 15 years ago because he didn't have enough pieces in place to move forward. Yeah... it took him 15 years from seeing the script and wanting to do it to finally have all of the pieces in place to make the film, and now it's in theatres. 15 years later. I'm just saying, you never know when that script is going to sell, much less if the film owner will include your product once purchased. Unless you're self-funding the film as well. But even then - you're not making money on it, you're just rerouting profits from one business into the start-up costs of another.

But don't take my word for it - this is a great question to post in the Producing Lounge! https://www.stage32.com/lounge/producing Actually, it may be a better question for the Financing Lounge: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/fundraising

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my blog post on how to get the most out of the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Thanks for this Kay I'm going to check those lounges out.
