Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter by David Edwards

David Edwards

Screenwriter

Hi Everyone! I am new to this site, super excited to meet and hopefully talk to you all. I've been writing for over 7 years, currently writing a horror and a comedy at the same time (great combination right?!) As I've grown older I'm over taking selfies and pictures of my beer at a pub and usually personal social posts. I'm slowly building this profile up as well as my others professionally and I'm starting to find Networking the hardest part of process and would love advice on where to start? How to create engaging posts and updates when most of a screenwriters craft is writing on paper? Thanks guys!

Welcome to the community, David Edwards! Horror/comedy is a great combination! I feel ya - networking can feel tedious at best. I wrote a blog some time ago about resetting the intentions when networking that may help: https://www.stage32.com/blog/How-to-Make-Friends-in-the-Film-Business-Resetting-the-Intention-of-Networking

You may have already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely reach out on the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read!

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my blog post on how to get the most out of the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Welcome, David Edwards. You wrote, "I'm slowly building this profile up." You can add your loglines, synopsis, and scripts in the logline section of your page.

Welcome. I know comedy/humor is hard to write and I can imagine horror is equally as difficult.

Welcome aboard. Hey, you might still consider the selfies at the bar when you're celebrating your positive steps. One step at a time. You've got a very supportive community here.

Hey Dave... I am a writer since I remember, and every time I focus on a new project/ media/ art/ communication form, its the same... you need to network, and you are nobody and nobody knows you... First step is to investigate everything you need to know from the people and companies you need to meet in order to translate your ideas to reality. When you know who are you looking for, you know the road.. You start with the "why" (your idea, dream, motivator), You investigate the Who, and the Where, and then... its easier to figure out the How. Of course you need talent, opportunity, tenacity, clarity and luck...

So... Good luck!
