I live in small-town Missouri and it is difficult to connect with other screenwriters. I have considered investigating Clubhouse. Can anyone offer insight on it? I am okay with technology, but not a whiz.
If you favor and only looking for Hollywood's usual formulaic movies approach of screenwriting, story building, film making, then on CH you will happily find so many people with loads of information, advice advocating that in each room session each day. Either pulling out information from "Save the cat" or "Hero's Journey" or one or other existing books which you probably read too, being talked about there and you might find great connections with that.
BUT if anyone comes up with anything different than usual, you might have a pretty hard time experiencing constant bullying. abuse, insult, being cornered by some crazy gang of groupism/tribalism "WE know each other" teams and might experience being kicked out from those rooms quite often or heckled out.. That's my experience there.
In that context, stage32's zoom session is more ok to feel safer.
Yes, you will get good connections there on CH but still, there is a catch to turn that connection to a possible prospect for your script being sold.
CH is a amazing space to connect and build. Look for rooms that will make sense and informative. You'll find a lot of "know-it-alls", but lets be honest if they really did then they wouldn't be preaching on CH all day long jumping from one room to another. If you find good clubs and amazing circle, then it gets addictive, which is again not a good sign. What works for me is I mark specific events that I wish to attend on weekdays, not more than an hour, while I dedicatedly run a late night room on Weekend for 2 hours.
There are few rooms which you can find active most of the times educate new users about Clubhouse, do check them out. Cheers
Hey Steven M. Cross! Come jump in the Writers' Room with us on Stage 32! We meet weekly and I think you will love the close knit community of writers there. Email me at j.mirch@stag32.com and I will hook you up with the VIP link. Our next webcast is Wednesday!
We also have several Writer's Cafes and other events hosted by Stage 32's Writer's Room members to help keep you motivated! Definitely check out that free month from Jason, and we'll see you in the Writer's Room!
