Adapting my first screenplay into a novel

So, my name is Hunter. I have autism. I recently decided to adapt my screenplay into a novel. have you ever tried that? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Douglas Brimson

I've actually done it both ways and can tell you from experience that adapting a screenplay into a novel is a whole lot easier than the other way round!

Karen "Kay" Ross

My screenwriting professor did that once, and it's a fun read. You can kinda tell it came from a screenplay as the plot moves fast and the writing doesn't allow for reflection or observation in the moment (i.e. those internal thoughts that we are only privy to when writing prose). It's all those descriptions that we don't need in a screenplay, but we kind of want in a book, ya know? That would be my only advice - don't leave that stuff out (and you can always trim it down later, if need be).

Karen "Kay" Ross Thank you so much for that advice. I will keep it in mind
