Lit manager script coverage and 30 min conversation

Hi all! I’m meeting with a lit manager tomorrow as part of the stage 32 script read and 30 min conversation service. Any advice for going into this meeting tomorrow? My assumption is it’ll be a coverage conversation on what’s working/not working with my script but anything else I should be prepared for? Thanks much!

Cameron Tendaji

that's really it honestly lol.

Jonathan Dittman

Awesome. Thanks Cameron! I'm not ready for anything else at this point. Hopefully I'm even ready to just talk about my story. lol

Have a few ideas ready to pitch. The exec may ask, you never know.

Jonathan Dittman

Good call Justin. Thanks!

Jonathan - How did the meeting go?

Jonathan Dittman

Hi Richard, it went really well! He had some very positive things to say about it but also some pretty actionable takeaways. He really focused on both the need to have strong writing but the need to have that unique voice to make it more commercially appealing for managers/agents/studios who get inundated with similar stories. I’m glad I did it. Thanks for asking!

For anyone also in same boat. - just listen. Dont justify or defend. But it's ok to ask specific questions. If they critique the ending ask "what could I do to make it more hard hitting?" No matter what they pick out as an area of improvement your response should be "what can I do? How Can I? What have you seen work better in your time". You are not there to justify how good a writer you are and get a sale. You're there to learn and to apply and make your script (that is your passion and baby) even better and give it best chance to make it.
