“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in the 20th Route 66 Film Festival in the US, which runs online from November 5-15, 2021.

“The Recess” marks its 53rd international appearance in Route 66 Film Festival in the US.

Route 66 Film Festival is an international event which runs each November in Springfield, USA.

The 20th Route 66 Film Festival is scheduled to run online from November 5-15, 2021. The award reception will be held both online and in-person on November 13.

“The Recess” competes in the Foreign Language section of the festival and competes for the main prizes.

“The Recess” tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.

“The Recess” has been screened in 53 international film festivals, earning 10 nominations, and 7 awards.
