Location Releases for Distribution

Do smaller distributors request production paperwork such as location release forms?

We were granted permission to film at a private location. My AP was in charge of getting the location release form signed, but never did. After the shoot, we were not able to get in contact with the location owners for the release. They’ve been either unresponsive or claiming they are busy and seems avoiding taking the time to read and sign the form. It’s clear we were there with permission as there was text exchange and we have BTS of the owners hanging out with us on set. The shoot went smoothly and there was nothing that would suggest we left a bad impression with them.

I’m going to be talking to distributors soon

and want to know if location releases are part of deliverables. I totally get we made a mistake by not getting it signed before the cameras started rolling. I’m assuming this has happened to others before. Any advice on what to do in my situation? Thanks!

I doubt you will need a locations release. Locations are not an issue after the fact. HOWEVER you are likely to require releases/permissions for any visible trademarks, and of course your cast/crew deals, etc.

I second what Shadow said! Personally, I keep a paper trail on all projects - just in case.
