Introduce Yourself : Lovie. Screenwriter and Creator. by Lovie

Lovie

Lovie. Screenwriter and Creator.

My year of YES began in October 2021. I’ve been a Stage 32 member since 2019, and it’s time to introduce myself. My name is Lovie. Carolyn Lovie Davis. I was named after my grandmothers.

I’ve been working on a the same two scripts for the last five years. SHOOPER, think True Romance meets Boogie Nights, has been a feature, a pilot, and currently a short comedy, then will revert back to a feature. EDGEWOOD was a dramedy that I finally dropped on a stack of outlines and scripts. It reads: Later. I’m excited to begin the rewrite for an earlier script called ALL IN. It’s a feature length comedy with a healthy mix of Bring It On and Hustlers. It’ll take some work.

My Year of YES has led to interactions on social media. My Stage 32 goals are to check out the lounge, become an active member in the writers room and take at least two webinars a month. I figure that the time spent standing in my living room wondering, ”What did I come to get?” could be better used on the platform. Anyhoo, I’ll be taking baby steps, so I’ll see you around. Take care and Take it Easy.

Congratulations Lovie, I was in your shoes last year, looking for where I could fit toward making another dream of mine come true. I’m a published author of Black romance (Arabesque with Kensington) and mystery, also with Kensington. Won my first screenplay competition with mystery screenplay last November , finished 2 feature scripts this year, a mystery and a Kwanza romance. Taking a deep breath and looking forward to the holidays. Best of success to you . . . .

Good to see you again, Lovie! So glad to hear you're still making progress on your projects, that's fantastic! If you need some encouragement or accountability, definitely check out our Nov. Write Club Challenge, where you get to set your own goals and help encourage others, too: https://www.stage32.com/blog/Join-Us-for-the-7th-Annual-November-Write-Club

If you're taking baby steps, you may not be interested in mentorship, but it could helpful as you work towards your goals. Definitely check out the mentorship opportunity with Mike Gauyo, the writer from HBO's Insecure and Ginny & Georgia: https://www.stage32.com/happy-writers/contests/Black-Boy-Writes-Media-an...

Keep at it, and keep us posted!

I appreciate Margie for sharing her path and Kay’s recommendation. Although I’ll take baby steps toward the social media aspect, I’m more than willing to check out the mentorship opportunity with Mike Gauyo. I love both of his shows. Thank you.
