Introduce Yourself : Screenplay pitches by Rex Basswood

Hello everyone! I’m Rex Basswood, pen name Peter Myers. Currently I live in Guadalajara, México. I’ve now written 4 screenplays.

1)I wrote RED CAR, while I lived in LA. I’m fascinated with transportation. Based on what happened to the Red Cars of Los Angeles, RED CAR explores transportation’s past, present, and future of transportation. It’s sci-fi drama with some humor.

What if a transportation commissioner, JOHN, the protagonist suffers the death of his wife and leaves a mountain of medical bills. He awkwardly seeks and receives a bribe. The commission must decide to impose a tax on tires. The antagonist, BRANDON, a tire executive, works the bribe to his advantage only to fail. In Los Angeles John, picks up a hitchhiker, GARTH, who reveals a new transportation system. Garth dies. John then seeks the plans of Freeway Based Mass Transit. At a dinner with Brandon, John throws off the would be bribe in search of Garth’s plans. At Garth’s funeral, John meets BETH, Garth’s sister who demonstrates Garth’s invention. The two go on to support the commission’s plans for the tax. However there is a twist at the end, and Beth inherits the Freeway Based Mass Transit patents from Garth and owns the future Red Car!

A musical, like Sound of Music is a musical, intermittent songs between action and dialogue.

2) THE BALTIC UNION, was written when I lived in Denmark. A fantastic true story of the Baltic Union joining Denmark, Norway and Sweden under one King, ERIK. Erik, a sociopathic monarch ruins his relationship with Sweden and a peasant revolt ensues forcing Danish troops out of Sweden. Out of the chaos Sweden emerges with new form of democracy created, by ENGLEBREKT ENGLEBREKTSON for the first time on the European continent, the parliamentary government.

King Erik is dethroned and becomes a pirate for ten years! The parliamentary government thrives for a short while but when Englebrekt is murdered, the parliament is relegated to minor status and looks like the parliament will succumb to Union forces in Sweden who want to undermine the parliamentary system and impose the Union King to the throne of Sweden.

After 10 years of pirating Erik is captured and exiled to his ancestral home. The parliament in Sweden is revived by STEN STURE. The Union King, CHRISTIAN, takes up arms against Sweden to impose the Union by force. Sten Sture wipes out Christian’s forces and the parliamentary system thrives in Sweden. The parliamentary system of Sweden has served as the prototype of all ‘democracies’ around the world.

This is a critically important movie. Out of a sociopathic administration came a new form of democracy. (Sound like Trump?) The BALTIC UNION, serves as an allegory for our times. A peasant uprising overthrew a king and created a new democracy!! Let’s create a new democracy here in the USA, a parliamentary form of government!

3) RED EARTH, RED STATE was written in Oklahoma. It’s the story of a California Physician, ROBERT PETERS who comes out in Oklahoma only to suffer massive discrimination. Based on a true story, cerca 2002-2009. Eventually, Robert has had enough and moves to Denmark with his small family.

4) Yet unnamed, it’s the true story of how DR. ROBERT PETERS. Becomes estranged from his husband, suffers a bipolar attack and tries to commit suicide ending up in a psych hospital. After discharge, Robert is fired from his job. With nothing left in Oklahoma Robert packs his things and moves to Washington state. In Washington, Robert is homeless for six weeks before finding a job. Within that six weeks, Robert filed an EEOC complaint citing the Americans with Disabilities Act and protested in front of his former employers offices in Seattle. The employer then files a retaliatory complaint to the Washington Medical Board.

Robert’s life becomes topsy turvy with the Board investigation into his personal life and professional life coupled with his bipolar disease creates chaos in Robert’s life. Another suicide attempt. Trump is elected president and Robert’s had enough. Robert moves to México. He tells the medical board to fuck off.
