I’m sitting in an Uber on my way home after a great week onboard the Queen Elizabeth entertaining guests with my jokes and a thought popped into my head.
I’ve made great progress in my writing recently and asked myself “why the hell haven’t you always done this? All this time you’ve wasted you’ll never get back!” Life does get in the way of getting stuff done but I realised that the reason most of us (me included) hesitate or put things off is because we are afraid. Afraid of 2 things - the F word and the R word.
F = Failure
R = Rejection
Nobody likes to fail but in failing we learn don’t we? How many times have we told ourselves “I’m a failure”?
And rejection - being told NO we don’t/I don’t like your stuff is never ever nice to hear. Whether it’s a competition or a pitch or just some friend or family member - REJECTION SUCKS.
Then I saw this (see pic) - and here’s the truth - WE ALL FAIL & WE ALL SUFFER REJECTION.
Now imagine if the person who this letter is addressed to saw the rejection and decided “this shit ain’t for me, I’m a failure, let me get back to my day job”.
Never fear the failure or the rejection - embrace it. Learn from it. Let it drive you until you get that YES or maybe something even smaller like “wow, I really enjoyed reading that, you’re talented”.
Big love everyone. Just needed to get this down.
