Are there any pitch sessions or script submissions that are free for those who are not in a position to afford the fees? Or any other options such as paying by covering jobs/ tasks in exchange (editing/proofreading/helping with social media etc)
Script exchanges are a great way to receive feedback for free - you pay by giving notes in return. We do host a Pitch Practice Session in the Writer's Room to get feedback on your verbal pitch, but you'd only be able to do that for free for the first month. But maybe you could build up your written pitch in the meantime? Get feedback on your 2-page written pitch and start your own group to practice pitching and get feedback?
Have you put together a pitch for your screenplay as well? I would highly recommend using Stage 32's free Pitching Guidebook to help you structure your pitch, whether it is a 2-page pitch document, a 5-minute verbal pitch, or a 15-30page pitch deck: https://www.stage32.com/sites/stage32.com/themes/two/pdfs/happy-writers/...
Bartering is always an option, though! So go for it!
Hi Karen "Kay" Ross, thanks for getting back to me. I am looking to start putting my pitch together in the next few days - ok I will use Stage32's Pitching Guide Book.
Ok noted regarding the free pitching only for 1st month, unfortunately I registered in December and only got active this month. I guess that leaves me with the option for script exchanges and seeing if there's a possibility for bartering. So I'm guessing there are no free options for submissions such as the upcoming 'screenplay with a lead female role'. :( In any caseI shall not be disheartened, I'll just have to start with what I can. Much appreciated
Jedida Oneko I do a set of seminars with Women In Entertainment, which are free if you register through them. The same and more will be available through the IIPG shortly at relatively low cost (independentproducersguild.org). These are not pitch sessions though; they are educational film production sessions, and are not concerned with assessing your scripts.
