Do You Attempt to Make Film History?

MUBI streaming service and distributor, once touted as the art-house movie collection curated by Martin Scorcese now is branding itself as the streaming service that brings "classic masterpieces" from the festivals to your screen. A film library from all over the world that celebrates the art and history of film... and it has a podcast to prove it!

Apparently, the first season was called "Lost in Translation", which focused on films that have great importance in their home country, while the second season will expose how individual movie theaters had an impact on film history. Honestly, it's pretty exciting stuff!

From the Deadline article, quoting Gagliano, "As a journalist or a creative, it's rare to work for a successful company that's also got, as a major part of its mission, to create and champion great art."

That line about "films that have great importance in their home country" really stuck with me because so few storytellers are willing to be the FIRST to do something. So many of us work towards uplifting underrepresented voices, sure, but are we looking at the landscape of film history itself and recognizing, "this has never been done before, and I think it's worth doing".

I'd love to know - what film history inspires you? What history has yet to be made that we can work towards?

So I saw this - and it really gave a pause in reflection for how theatrical is going. I don't subscribe to MUBI though I think it's place is valid as a home for streaming independent content. To see Martin Scorcese support streaming really supports the pull away from theatrical. I nearly never click on the IMDb channel on my Amazon Prime and though somewhere i have an app for Sundance TV , I never use it. Curious to know how many are paid subscribers to MUBI and what the watch time metrics are! Don't even get me started on ads!
