Well, been a while since I came onto another "Introduce Yourself Weekend" session....a little late this time, but here none the less.
Welcome to all the newcomers, this is a great place for you to make connections if you are SERIOUS about becoming a film-making professional in one capacity or another. Its a very, very tough business but you can prevail if you are truly obsessed with success, not just dream about it.
I've been in the business over 35 years, been down the road a long ways, so I know what it takes and it starts with hard work and connections, then talent and perseverance. Trust me, I truly know. Our studio has many incredible projects in pre-production financing, and all have taken years of development to get where they are. We have a team of the very top, highly experienced producers in the business, too.
The film industry is NOT a mobile app where you can "swipe right" and instantly be a star, a producer, director, or whatever your goal is. Come here, BE HONEST about yourself, who you are, what you can do, what you know, and DO NOT know, and make the connections carefully which can aid you in moving forward.
And remember, regardless of how good YOU literally are, there are probably 10,000 or more others just as good and many are a lot better...they all want to work in the business. BE PATIENT, Be ONLY PROFESSIONAL - ALL the time...the business has a very high "bad karma" factor if you're a smart-ass know-it-all who doesn't "play nice with the other children." ;-)
Good luck....
Great to meet you, Eric Ross Gilliatt. Great advice. Thanks for sharing it.
