Animation : What do you use for your animated projects? by MB Stevens

What do you use for your animated projects?

I've looked at a lot of animation software over the years and finally landed on iClone7 for 3D animation. I selected iClone7 for the ease of use, quick rig, and character lip sync functionality. Animator's what software/style do you prefer to use to bring stories to life and why?

Kevin Jackson

I love iClone. It's a versatile tool Originally meant for Pre-Viz but it is capable for animation as well. If can also combine in a bundle with other Reallusion software and Blender for more sophistication. I have not used it beyond some basic trials but I am planning to revisit it now that iClone 8 is out. The character designer tool looks great. Have you made anything with it yet?

I tend to use Moho Pro and Toonboom because 2D is my preference, but I am getting back into 3D so I am re-learning Blender.

Have never tried iCLone, but played around in Blender the other day to see if its 2D aspect worked for me. I'll need to watch some more tutorials, but I like the price (FREE). Blender is really gaining respect and tracktion among 3D animators, so it will be around for a while.

I saw a Blender tutorial recently that gave a lot of tips on incorporating the 2D in Blender with 3D space and lighting.

I've been using Toon Boom and Adobe Animate (Flash) for years. If you like rigging, Toon Boom has a lot to offer. Personally, I'm more comfortable with traditional hand-drawn animation. Toon Boom works well with that as well.

I've been using Lightwave 3D. It allows me to make models, animate them, and do compositing. This was a video I was setting up for a commercial contest:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUtpv5AypSA

Mike, I agree. I have used Blender, some. Free is a big feature.

Tara Doridy

I use Moho and Blender to create my animations. I always try different software to get more experience. I like creating short animated videos. I'm thinking about selling my videos, but I have no idea what the normal cost of animated video would be. I've seen a lot of price lists, but it's hard to price my projects objectively. But I think that the more tools you can use, the higher quality you can make a project.

I agree Tara Doridy , it's hard to put a price on our animated creations.

Kevin Jackson Yeah, I've made quite a few projects with iclone7. I'm still on the fence about upgrading to iclone8 due to a few minor upgrades.
