Netflix

Hello dear friends,

I wish you all a happy Easter holiday!

Everything is closed today in Germany. This comes in handy for me, because I have been working so much. Now I have a little time at home for my own stuff. For a while now, I've been wondering how I could get a supporting role in a Netflix series or movie? That made me think of stage32. I hope one of you can give me more information about this. Would definitely be very cool to know more than what I´ve found on google. I have to say that so many things seem impossible and are presented that way. But I don't want to believe in that. What distinguishes one person from the other?

Yasmin Kleoparia, almost 100% of the time, if you want a speaking role on a big streaming service like Netflix, you need an agent or manager who has good relationships with those Casting Directors. Sometimes, when casting is searching for a VERY SPECIFIC type, they will open it publicly. But the rest of the time they need agents and managers that they trust to pitch actors they can vouch for.

In other words, don't expect to get "discovered". If you have access to IMDbPro, or maybe there's something similar in Germany, you can look up your favorite Netflix shows and see who the Casting Directors are, and put them on your target list. That way, you can ask your agent/manager that you would like to get on their radar.

And to your last question, that's not a short answer. First, you need training. LOTS of training. The same reason a doctor or lawyer has to go through so much education also applies to actors. Through that training, you'll likely build the connections you need to get that agent/manager, and then the path forward becomes more clear.

And that training should act as the minimum to be considered for speaking roles. And assuming that's true, then your training gets you in the door, but doesn't always book you the role. Since EVERYONE being considered for a role is theoretically trained enough to handle the role, it now comes down to what makes you unique as a human. Who are you? What slice of humanity do you naturally portray more so than anyone up for the same role? For instance, Jack Nicholson owns volatility. So in his early career if he tried to be something else, it wouldn't be authentic.

In short, casting is looking for you to bring YOU to the audition. Nothing more nothing less (except training, of course).

Like I said, there's so much to unpack here. But hopefully that helped some!
