Hello! Has anyone here ever hired a co-writer to come on board to an already drafted feature script when there is no producer or production company involved yet (meaning there is no production budget and the script is being written on spec)? If so, would you be willing to share payment range with me or any thoughts on what to offer a co-writer and/or how to determine what they should be offered. Feel free to DM! Thank you!

I would say you can pay minimum of 50 Dollars to anyone who is willing to co-write script. And the ideal payment Brackett should be 500-1000 Dollars for full length feature screenplay.

Thank you for your insight! I would personally not feel OK paying any writer a mere $50 for a feature, but I appreciate realizing there are newer writers out there willing to work for the passion! I think $1,000 sounds like a non-offensive minimum for non-union writers, but love hearing all the perspectives/experiences in this regard.

Hi Julia! It all depends on what you want said writer to do. If it's a total collaborative effort, many writers will work at a decent fee plus co-writing credit. Then there is the other alternative, you can hire a pro screenwriter who will for a decent fee do a "word count" (3000/5000). You send an outline and they would flesh it out in a screenplay format. (you retain the rights as the only writer) This could be very cost-effective. You could do all 3 Acts of your screenplay to give you a clear picture of your story. I hope this helps. Cheers!
