An Animated Feature that will 'Never' Get Made

I was asked to write a feature based on the animated series I've been working on. Honestly, I've really enjoyed writing this one a lot. It's my first animated feature script and I've had some really amazing ideas that I hadn't even considered when writing the series episodes. But based on the company's budget and priorities, I know this script will probably never get made. They're paying me to write it, so I don't mind. But it's sad knowing that it's just going to end up in a hard drive somewhere. And due to the nature of the IP the script is based on, I can't even show it to anyone. It would have at least been a great writing sample if nothing else. I hope they make it some day, but the honest truth is that it's just a paid exercise in writing.

Sounds interesting! You think the company's budget is too small? thx

Karen "Kay" Ross

That's frustrating. I'm sorry, my friend! Although, for the creative exercise, it's kinda cool that you're still being paid! But as someone who likes feeling like their work makes a difference, I think it would turn me off from the project. We creatives tend to thrive under the right amount of pressure, not NO pressure.

Trevor Gustafson It's more about production time than budget. Yes the budget is a factor but they'd actually like to produce multiple features in this IP. The bigger issue is that it's not actually a production company. This IP is a marketing machine for their actual product sales. So making a movie has a very low ROI for them and would take literal years to produce. For their sales teams, the value in such an investment isn't much higher than just making 5 minute shorts every couple months. Which is why they're doing that currently. They need constant content for making ads and generating clicks rather than epic content.
