The Making of HBO's "The Survivor" - A Premiere Spotlight with Producer Scott Pardo

Hi Stage32ers,

I have an exciting webcast for you today called: The Making of HBO's "The Survivor" - A Premiere Spotlight with Producer Scott Pardo

It begins at 11am PT.

Based on the book HARRY HAFT: SURVIVOR OF AUSCHWITZ, CHALLENGER OF ROCK MARCIANO, by Alan Haft, the story follows Harry Haft, a boxer who survived Auschwitz by winning bare-knuckle bouts for the perverse entertainment of SS officers. Determined to find freedom and his first love, Haft traveled to America and began a career as a professional boxer, quickly finding success using his sharp instincts and fierce confidence.

The film is directed by Barry Levinson, the Academy Award-winning director of RAIN MAN, with a script by Justine Juel Gillmer (THE 100). It also features an all-star cast, including Ben Foster (HELL OR HIGH WATER) as Haft, Vicky Krieps (PHANTOM THREAD), Billy Magnussen (NO TIME TO DIE), Peter Sarsgaard (JACKIE), Saro Emirze (WILSBERG), Dar Zuzovsky (HOSTAGES), Danny DeVito (IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA), and John Leguizamo (LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS).

A team at USC Shoah Foundation aided the film’s production, providing detailed historical consulting in addition to access to the testimony of Haft, filmed in 2007 and preserved within USC Shoah Foundation's Visual History Archive.

Scott Pardo - I believe you said that you did an attachment agreement with the author of the book that this is based on - can you explain to the Stage 32 community the pros and cons of doing an attachment agreement vs. an option agreement?

Sam Sokolow

THE SURVIVOR was screened at the White House yesterday. Congratulations again to Stage 32 member Scott Pardo! https://deadline.com/2022/04/white-house-screening-joe-biden-the-survivo...

Hi Amanda. Excellent question. I optioned the book HARRY HAFT which became the film THE SURVIVOR. When dealing with books, articles, graphic novels, etc. in my experience it is best to fully control the IP, with all obligations fully spelled out in the agreements. RE: Attachments in my experience those are best used for talent (director/ actor). Those attachments can be the gold that allows one to finance their picture.

Thanks for sharing this!
