Introduce Yourself : Breaking through Fear by Cissy N Ly

Breaking through Fear

Hi all!

I'm Cissy and I'm an LA based actor. I've had some luck booking some cool acting jobs over the years (worked on the set of Shameless, Roadies with Cameron Crowe, a feature film that I'm very proud of that was picked up by Blumhouse and competed at SXSW called 'Soft & Quiet'). I've directed my first podcast series for an artist called Julia Michaels last year for this wellness app called Mindset. I also recreationally do stand-up (used to perform at The Comedy Store pre-covid). I dabble in quite a bit creatively and am generally fearless when it comes to my creative ventures. However, Screenwriting and pitching projects is something I would like to feel more confident in. I've been working on this series pitch/pilot on and off for the last few years and we are in a place in time where I know the world is ready for it. However, it needs a lot more work and I have some fear around sharing it because it's a very personal story. I'm hoping through the community at Stage32 I break through my fear of sharing my story and find the motivation to bring my work to a place where it's pitchable.

Looking forward to connecting!

Doug Nelson

Welcome to the pack. You may not wish to share your story with us but can you share the theme? If it's breaking through fear - fear of what; the dark, success, failure or maybe fear of creepy old fat men?

Rutger Oosterhoff

... On a side note -- as an actress, if you want to take a look at the short - 'Hollywood meets Bollywood' unconventional -musical- screenplay "On the Verge" , that would be great! Best, Rutger

David C. Velasco

Welcome Crissy. I wish you continued success.

Maurice Vaughan

Welcome, Cissy N Ly. Glad you're in the community. Congrats on your success. Sometimes I get the thought, "Don't share this," but I've experienced success when I've shared the script. Don't let the fear hold you back from sharing your work, because without sharing, your scripts can't be optioned, sold, or produced.

You should check out the Screenwriting lounge, the blogs, and the Writers' Room. I think they will help you find confidence in screenwriting and pitching projects. There are Pitch Tanks in the Writers' Room that you can join. Some of the Pitch Tanks are live, and some of them are on-demand (in "The Vault").

Hello Cissy! Remember - Fear is a Liar! Pitching through Stage 32 has always been a good experience for me, and the feedback will help you improve. Best wishes!

That’s awesome, Cissy. There are terrific resources here at Stage 32 to help. One example is Will McCance’s upcoming class on mastering the 5 minute pitch - it can really help with getting comfortable and excited about pitching! https://www.stage32.com/classes/Stage-32-Private-Pitching-Lab-How-to-Mas...
