There’s 3 elements to producing in the traditional sense. For starters, it’s your job to get the move made. But there’s the PRE producer. Which means developing the script and making it the best it can be and sending it to and getting studios or buyers to read it and create a buzz and get people fire up about it. There’s the actual PRODUCER part. Getting the things made nuts and bolts. Then there’s the POST producer. Post production. Trusting your editor and director. Working with the studio and money people to help finalize it. Then distributing and marketing. What producer do you need? There are very few that are good at all if it.

I think the producer brings together all the elements needed to create the story and then stewards the environment while reining the budget and schedule. It's good times if ya ask me!

I’ve always felt that a producer builds a team around a common goal and then is tasked with putting each member of that team into a position to do their best work. That one fundamental principal allows a good producer to take a project from start to finish through all these phases.

You're article post was great too, Mr. IIan. But that scenario you drew is not one I would want to be drawn into. I feel somehow there is a competitive advantage in staying unknown.

Ilan Breil Thank you for the insight. It is my 1st time being a producer on an indie film and I am learning as I am going. I'm trying to soak up as much as possible from articles, webinars, and anecdotal but still feel I am missing the big picture. Can you point me in the direction of a blog here on Stage 32 or a good webinar to watch? Also is there a difference between producer and financier?
