Your Stage : Have you Herd? by Ryan Poirier

Ryan Poirier

Have you Herd?

Hey all!

I'm on a search for a tv/film producer, or a literary agent that can bridge that connection.  I'm a self-published author and artist for an award winning graphic series I created called The Herd.

I've been doing book tours for a few years now, then lovely covid happened and that had to stop; but now conventions are happening again and I'm back at it.  My goal with this series, is to get it pitched to a network, and I've been sending out the emails and doing my due diligence.  But we all know how dog eat dog this industry is as far as being one of many out there who have a story to tell.  So, that's why I'm posting this to see what response or advise I get, if any, that I'm humbly asking for :)

The Herd a superhero anthropomorphic comedy about a group of wannabe heroes who find their powers (and problems) at the bottom of a bottle of contaminated fruit juice. When a disgruntled employee at a fruit juice factory contaminates a new product with a secret formula for their diabolical means, it accidentally results in a city-wide supernatural outbreak! It's up to the factory's owner and a new team of amateur heroes to save Maple City and stop the superpowered pandemic from spreading beyond its borders.

This series is targeted for all ages. It’s funny and off-the-wall for the young audience, with a lot of meta, movie and pop culture parodies/references for the adult audience.

In February of this year The Herd won the 2021 North Street Book prize from Winning Writers Inc., for their graphic novel category.

Anyway, so that's my shpeal!  If anyone has any advise or direction to offer, or if you happen to be an agent or producer who would like to know more about The Herd, I have a media kit/pitch available upon request.  My books (The Herd and Farm Freaks) can be found on amazon, google play or at my website www.accidentalcreations.ca

Thanks for reading!

Cheers!

Great poster and title, Ryan Poirier! You said you're pitching this at conventions. Are you pitching it on Stage 32 (the Pitch Sessions)?

Cherelynn Baker

Ryan Poirier Congratulations! Nice poster - now - to get more traction on your search for a producer, have you considered posting in the jobs board? Maybe add some details like budget, pay structure, distribution and so forth to help narrow the field of the producer you are searching for. Go get 'em and good luck!

Ryan Poirier

Maurice Vaughan Cherelynn Baker Thank you! I haven't tried on pitch session on here to be honest. I have posted on a job board recently...or at least tried to. Problem was it wouldnt accept posts from Canada. Are there boards that are more fine tuned to literary agents or producers? I have a pitch ready as far as everything needed to know...with the exception of the items you mentioned... I have NO idea what a budget for this would be to be lol. Whatever a 2D animated series costs I guess? lol

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Ryan Poirier.

You have a unique graphic series, a great poster, a media kit, and a pitch. I think you need to know the budget range (as Cherelynn Baker mentioned). When I pitch a script, I have a budget range in mind (Example: Low-budget $1MM-$3MM), so it might help you to have a budget range when you pitch. I come up with a budget range based on researching the budgets of movies that are similar to my script. I also come up with a budget range based on thinking about things that are in my script (how many locations, cast size, action scenes, etc.). I do the same thing when I pitch a TV show.

Thanks so much Maurice Vaughan Yea this is my first time doing a pitch lol if you couldn't tell :p I'll look into what a budget would be for sure. I even have voice actors in mind lol which I'd assume would add to the budget. Is something like that taken into account for a budget in a pitch? That's partly why I didn't include a budget to be honest. I know it's just an estimate, but with so many things to consider, I figured focus on the idea itself and see where that goes and figure budget after. But again, this is my first pitch lol

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Ryan Poirier. I'm not sure if voice actors are taken into account for budget (when pitching). I just mention a budget range. If there's a note I need to include (such as ways to save money on budget), I might mention it.

Ryan, your post has been moved to Your Stage, which is your opportunity to have the microphone to share what you’ve been working on. You can also find collaborators under “Jobs” on the top menu bar, where you can search by profession, location, and pay. Here is the link:https://www.stage32.com/find-jobs. Good luck with your project.

How's it been, Ryan Poirier? How's it going with "The Herd"?

Ryan Poirier

Good thanks :) keeping busy. The Herd is doing well. It won a Reader's choice award recently and is currently in the finalists for the Canadian Book award :) i have a table at a comic con tomorrow spreading the word about The Herd, and my other series Farm Freaks; which i just published the 3rd if 7 books in that series. So, bo complaints :) still searching for an agent but that takes time and persistence. Thanks for asking :) How are things with you?

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on winning a Reader's Choice Award and being a finalist, Ryan Poirier! And congratulations on publishing "Farm Freaks"!

These might help you find an agent:

IMDb Pro has managers and agents you can look up. https://pro.imdb.com/signup/index.html?u=https%3A%2F%2Fpro.imdb.com%2F%3... IMDb Pro costs $19.99 a month, but there's a 30-day free trial.

Things are fine, thanks. I recently finished a writing job. I'm working on a pitch deck job and pitching projects right now.

Have a great time promoting "The Herd" and "Farm Freaks" at Comic Con!

Ryan Poirier

Thank so much on the links! Really helps :) comic con was good today, sold books and made people laugh and smile with my story synopsis....can't ask for better than that :) best of luck on your pitches!

Maurice Vaughan
