Hi everyone,
Have a question - I'm finalizing some details on my pitch and need to know some cost estimates.
I've done some searches on what it would cost to produce a 12 episode 2D animated series, and it's roughly 4 million USD, but that's not taking into account marketing costs, and I'm not sure about voice actor costs. I've seen other answers saying 2 million an episode....which I'm assuming that's covering everything, ie voice actors. My graphic novel series The Herd would be pitched as being a 12 half-hour episodes season. The animation style being 2D vector in line with any Marvel or DC animated series.
What would something like that cost?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
On that whole note, I'm looking to connect with any producer or literary agent open to having a look at The Herd :)

There are so many factors that go into budgeting a series. If you need a real number, then pay an animation line producer to come up with a budget. I've been on projects that were $200K per episode to those that where a million plus per episode. If you are pitching it to a streamer or company to acquire it, then production cost isn't something you need to worry about, only if you are planning to produce it yourself.

What Bob said. If you aren't producing yourself, a production budget isn't really that important to your pitch. What is important is fully understanding the story you're trying to tell while also having room for expansion. One offs are essentially dead these days.

Really good to know. I've rewritten/redesigned my pitch. Now it's just getting an agent or finding the right person at a studio to look at it. I don't think this would be a one off series...bias of course, but I think it has potential as a franchise with a lot of merchandise potential - clothes, toys, food/drink. I have a 12-episode first season planned out based on the 5 volumes I've written - Volume 1 would be a 3 part first episode, half hour each respectively. Volumes 2-4 would be 2 part episodes each, and the finale, volume 5, would be another 3-part episode, leaving it open for plenty more stories should it catch on. But, again, just need to get the right person to see it!
