How are things, Jerome Jackson? What makes me want to watch the movie is 1) the black and white color and 2) it's set in a body shop (I haven't seen many movies that are set in body shops).
Hey Maurice! Thanks for the feedback! We originally was going with color but after looking at it in black and white while also considering the tone of the script, we decided to keep it without the color. It really helped to capture the mood right and settled into perfectly into the crime noir genre.
A friend of ours, Ricardo Redeross, who stars in this film, was able to talk to his business partner and allow us to use his shop as the location, which was awesome and truly a blessing. We were all excited and very pleased with the final product too!
Much appreciated! We both know how important setting a mood is to screenwriting, films, and marketing.
The actor's name is Gio Drasconi and he did an excellent job portraying Anthony Martolli, a sleazy business owner. He has many other projects completed and in the works as well.
We do plan on entering in some festivals but we wanted to do some more films to gain more experience and build our catalogue. I've searched here on Stage 32 and on FilmFreeway and a few have certainly caught my attention.
That's smart, Jerome Jackson ("...we wanted to do some more films to gain more experience and build our catalogue"). Hope the festival run goes great for you all!
Is it a B & W film? The opening VO is pretty good but a little weak/short to draw someone into the film. There's some serious character continuity issues - who should I like/dislike & why.
Hey Doug! Yes, Body Shop is a short film that falls into the crime noir genre so we went with the Black & White color instead of using the full color spectrum.
Being a short film, we decided to not give away too much of the film in the trailer. Rather, we chose to leave clues as to what it's about in hopes of making it more intriguing while not compromising its limited screen time.
With film noirs usually showing characters who battle with what some may consider an ambiguous nature, the short stills revolves around Cedric, the guy sitting with the wrench who we see at the beginning and the end.
Thanks for your feedback too Doug! We will certainly consider your views moving forward, especially in regard to full-length films.
What's up Maurice! We have the film on our Taleville.com site and on our YouTube channel. You can see it now and we'd love to hear your opinions, both good and bad.
(Some festivals don't allow the film to be public as a prerequisite to enter but we'll obviously look at those that will let us enter even if it's already viewable online.)
How's it going, Jerome Jackson? I liked "Body Shop." The main character's voiceovers were entertaining and some of them were funny. I noticed the Crime Noir parts in the movie. You were able to cover a lot in 9 minutes.
Thanks for checking out our film! We all has fun creating it and hope others enjoyed it as well as understood the meaning of it. I'm big on theme and developing layers to my stories and characters.
I actually entered this film into the Thrills and Chills Film Awards for the month of August. I was nominated for best screenplay and although I didn't win it was an honor to to be recognized.
I hope you're doing well and your endeavors are flourishing!
You're welcome, Jerome Jackson. Congrats to you, the cast, and the crew on getting nominated! I noticed one theme was "Don''t get involved with things you shouldn't."
Thanks bro! You're spot on with one of the themes I wanted to convey in this film. I try to have a few as life itself has numerous meanings and the audience can have conversations about them after watching the short.
Another piece of good news is that we did win for Best Film Noir in the Bluesky Film & Music Festival! It's a first year event and a monthly one but we were excited and honored to be selected. I hope the other winners ar as thrilled and the festival has tons of future success!
Good to hear how you're networking and making those all important connections! Sometimes it really isn't such as what you know as it is who you know. I hope it all goes well for you as our journey continues!
I'm currently editing with my close friend and director Antoine Evans on our fourth film titled "Entrance". We're almost done but we also need to get it scored too. Our good friend and awesomely talented composer Nico Schuele has worked with us on two previous films and will be doing this one as well. I'll let you know when everything is wrapped up!
Yeah, making connections is really paying off. I finished a script coverage job this week, and I'm about to start some new jobs. I think it's about what you know and who you know.
Excited to see "Entrance." The title's intriguing. What genre is it?

You're welcome. The black and white coloring definitely helps capture the mood.
I recognize the actor on the right (at 00:04 in the trailer), but I don't know his name.
What's your plan for the film? Film festival?

You're right, Jerome Jackson. Are you going to put the film online after the festival run?

You're welcome, Jerome Jackson.
"...the audience can have conversations about them after watching the short." That's when you know the film really stuck with the audience.
Congrats to you and everyone on the win! Gotta celebrate every win.
I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking. I'm building relationships in the industry, pitching scripts, and working on some projects.
How are things going for you? Are you working on anything new?
