Introduce Yourself : A feature film in Congo, a folly? by Carlo Lechea

A feature film in Congo, a folly?

I've heard that statement too often. And if it's true, let's be crazy! There are more great films about the Congo than by the Congo. Yet the Congolese love cinema, and I want to prove that we can make it! There have been a few kamikazes, like Djo Munga, or film technicians who have collaborated with foreign directors ("Kinshasa kids", "Rebelles", "La Vie est belle"), but mainly Congolese teams, directed by a Congolese, that is a real challenge!

I made a first attempt with my film "Destin Tracé". More than three years of work! This complicated adventure is not a failure for me. It was a very formative experience for me. I had launched into this first dream of filmmaking with too many ideals and I had to fight with the many hazards and adversities of my country. With hindsight, I look at them as a richness, a life learning experience.

This may be a difficult summit to climb and I see it as another challenge to be taken up. Both for me and for my country. And for all young African film technicians in general, who hope one day to make a living from their passion.

Hi Carlo, So nice to meet you! I'm Shellie Schmals, Stage 32 Director of Community. Love all of your enthusiasm and your optimism. What kind of assistance are you looking for?

Peter Roach

Carlo, you gotta start somewhere regardless of country. Isaac Nabwana got world famous with "Who killed Captain Alex?"

Movies are made on ultra low budgets in the USA too. I wish you success.

Hi Shallie, Thanks for the support. By registering on this platform, I hope to create relationships with producers and technicians who will be able to give a push to make my second film which is in development.

Carlo Lechea

Hi Peter, I don't know what to say... Thank you for these nice words :-)
