Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter/Novelist/Playwright by Bart Baker

I always introduce myself because I always meet interesting people.  My name is Bart, and I've been making my living as a writer for almost four decades now. I've had two features, eleven TV movies, and episodes of four network shows produced. Presently have a few things in development but for the last year or so I've focused my attention to writing novels. The movie rights to my first novel, HONEYMOON WITH HARRY, were bought by New Line and since, there has been a parade of A-list talent attached, but it's still not made (Warner Bros bought the movie rights to my play, RELAY. It was at the production altar when the plug was pulled. It suffered from a regime change that killed it as it was greenlit.)  But regardless of the disappointments, I've been blessed to have a lot made and continue to make my living as a writer for as long as I have. The movie rights to my latest novel, THE WEDDING GIFT, have been acquired by a director that I really like, and she is now taking it to production companies through her company. Next up, my new book. the second (and last) sequel to HONEYMOON WITH HARRY, aptly titled, THE LAST HONEYMOON WITH HARRY, will be out in November and is on preorder on Amazon if anyone is interested. And then a very dark novel, the first in THE CORDON FINN REVENGE series, about a former 'extraction and information' specialist for the military, who now plies his 'special skills' to exact revenge on those who have hurt other people, while Cordon deals with all the abuse and humiliation at the hands of his own father because of his sexuality.

Having survived the Hollywood game as long as I have, scars and all, I do a lot of public speaking about screenwriting and the industry. Having been around for as long as I have as a working writer, I know about the changes in the industry - and what will never change. I have taught at the university level, and mentored a few writers along the way. Just as I have been mentored by some more successful novelists as I have punched my way into that business. Overall, I've been super blessed to be doing what I'm doing for as long as I've been doing it and having made a living at it - which pretty much means you can too. :)  I love writers. I love creative people. I love visionaries. And have been blessed to surround myself with many throughout my life. And that keeps me creating.
