Yes, just get through it. The first draft is the bones and not the flesh of our script.
Don’t even think about structure; just get through it.
Pour over the script, note where the beats are, the great pulses of drama and not when the flow is haemorrhaging off the page.
We may write a great scene, but that may be where the problem is. Start a new doc, edit that out. See what it does to the flow and the beats. Check if that leaves a plot hole. If it does, then fill it!
And repeat…

Yup...that's pretty much it...much like building anything else...you don't get to concrete a house and then work on the sketches...

Kiril Maksimoski nice one Kiril. As CJ said on another post, sketching and drawing before you add the colour.

Who thought "Just Do It" could be applied to so many things, Geoff Hall. Haha

In other words, you're saying just do it.

Pamela White you must have been influenced by Maurice Vaughan and yours truly. There’s a Nike echo on this thread. Haha!

I really agree with this approach. Sometimes you really don’t know what your story is until you’ve written it. This isn’t room for everyone but it’s definitely true for some writers, myself included.

Rosemary Zibart Hi Rosemary, how is life in your city? I noticed from your profile that you adapt your work to different mediums. I’m wondering what are your ‘rules’ for adaptation? We have all heard of adaptations from book to film, that annoys the lovers of the book. Is this because of false expectations on their part?

I tell myself that everytime I write a screenplay. Just get the first draft done. Worry about fixing it and putting the missing pieces later. I believe it's the real battle we must face in our heart...
