That Vowel At The End Of Your Name

THAT VOWEL AT THE END OF YOUR NAME, my short film, is now playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMqd2vUI3I8 I'm so proud of this film. I wrote, directed, produced, shot, edited and even acted in this microbudget project, but none of this would have been possible without my amazing cast and crew. I want to give a huge shoutout to them for helping me see this vision come to fruition. This is the embodiment of taking the bull by the horns, gathering resources, assembling a crew and going for it. WE MADE A MOVIE! And nobody can take that from us. This is microbudget filmmaking, and I'm proud.

Doug Nelson

It's a nice start - I'll bet you learned a lot.

Trey Alessio

Doug Nelson Thank you! And yes, I feel like I learned a lot about the process, which was a blast.

Mark Violi

Congrats, Trey!

Shellie Schmals

Hi Trey Alessio, what were the biggest lessons you learned about micro-budgeting? I'd love to learn more!

Doug Nelson

I'm from far away and long ago, so I know (knew) what those vowels meant. It would be nice if you pointed it out to the current 'woke' crowd. We've lost so much knowledge.

Trey Alessio

Thanks, Mark Violi!

Shellie Schmals I learned so much during this whole process. It was fun and nerve-wrecking and stressful and inspiring all at the same time! The biggest thing I learned about wearing the director hat was understanding that it's basically being a professional problem solver. Logistically, there were many times we had to pivot in terms of scheduling with actors or locations or wardrobe. A big thing I learned throughout this process was to be flexible. On the editing side, I also really enjoyed learning new tricks within the software I was using (Final Cut). If you're thinking about embarking on a microbudget project, I would definitely recommend it because you'll get a lot out of it.

Doug Nelson For me, it was really trying to bridge the gap between the younger generation and the older generation through the lens of a modern Italian-American family. I love my Italian heritage, but I also see the flaws in some of the dated, conservative traditions within that culture. It's the celebration of that culture while simultaneously trying to break down barriers in order to be progressive and inclusive. I was trying to explore those themes with this film.

Julia Warren

Trey Alessio That's a big micro=production! I like how you managed to get so many extras involved, the sense of crowds at the fest and so on. Are you submitting to festivals?

Trey Alessio

Julia Warren Thanks for watching! And yes, I submitted to some film fests... I'd be so happy to get into one!

Doug Nelson

It's been a couple of days since I watched it. I recall a feeling of the value of family/loyalty and its centrality to Italian heritage but I think the woke culture has diluted that. Personally I'd be more moved by that theme.

As to festivals; don't submit it to the top tier or the bottom sludge. It should do well in the mid range festivals in communities that have notable Italian neighborhoods. All the best with it.

Trey Alessio

Thanks, Doug Nelson! Hopefully we can make a good little festival run. I appreciate it!
